The Lees finished preschool last week. So many of my friends were blasting social media about how very sad they were to see their kids reach this milestone because they were a year older. I was mostly sad because I’ve lost my 8 hours a week to run errands and work out without 2 toddlers underfoot. I mean, I love my kids but…
Anyways, summer is here and Whit wanted to take a surprise to share with all her friends at school to celebrate the end of the year (she gets her love of celebration so honest!) and I knew just the thing! Patriotic Pops made with Rice Krispies Cereal and Keebler Vanilla Wafers are the perfect summer treat, especially with Memorial Day right around the corner.
Rice Krispies Patriotic Pops are easy to make with only a few ingredients and can even be used as decorations (or favors) for your next party!
But you should know I’ve been told these Patriotic Pops are the best thing ever put in your mouth. I don’t disagree. Consider this fair warning- if you make these to have at home YOU WILL EAT THEM ALL!
Patriotic Pops with Rice Krispies
Here is what you need:
Rice Krispies Cereal (6 cups)
Jet-Puffed Marshmallows (6 cups + 1 reserved)
Keebler Vanilla Wafers (2 cups, crushed)
patriotic sprinkles (because everything is better with sprinkles!)
white chocolate candy melts (1 lb)
I suggest doing your shopping at Target. Right now, until July 12, there is a Rice Krispies Checkout 51 offer to get $1 when you purchase Rice Krispies Cereal and Jet-Puffed Marshmallows.
There is also a Keebler Cookies Cartwheel offer from May 21 to July 8 to save 10% on Keebler Cookies. Guess what? Patriotic Pops use all 3 of those ingredients!
Let’s Get Cooking
Start by melting your butter in a large stockpot. Once your butter is melted add the marshmallows and stir until they are melted and smooth.
Remove the pot from the heat and add your Rice Krispies and crushed Vanilla Wafers, stirring until well mixed. The Vanilla Wafers add a little flavor to the traditional Rice Krispies treat recipe and also help hold the treats in place when they become pops. You could also substitute Keebler Vienne Fingers or Fudge Stripes for a slightly different flavor.
Now add your reserved cup of marshmallows and stir. These will melt a little but not completely allowing you to bite into a little chunk of marshmallow every now and then.
Finally, add your sprinkles stirring just enough to mix them into the Rice Krispies Treats. (If the sprinkles are mixed too much the color will rub off and make your rice krispies look a little funky.)
Now for the fun part!
Spread your Rice Krispies Treat mixture on a greased pan. Use waxed paper to press the mixture flat. To make Patriotic Pops the mixture will need to be about 1 inch thick.
Allow Rice Krispies Treats to cool before using a greased cookie cutter to cut out star shapes.
Melt your candy melts according to the package instructions. Once melted, add about 2 tsp of olive oil to make the chocolate easier to work with.
Dip your stick in chocolate and insert into the rice krispie stars. Hold firmly to the star so it will remain in tact. You may have to mold it a bit with your hands to get it back into shape.
Paint your Rice Krispies Patriotic Pop with melted chocolate. This is important! Dipping the pops can pull the treat from the stick so I have found it’s better to use your fork like a paintbrush and apply the melted chocolate to the star.
Lay flat to dry. (If you are decorating with sprinkles be sure to add them before the chocolate hardens.)
That’s it, folks. Pretty simple and so delicious! You will want to make a couple extra Patriotic Pops for taste testing.

I prefer to wrap my Patriotic Pops up with a bow. I love the polished, professional look it gives them AND it helps keep it a pop instead of just a Rice Krispies treat star! (Trust me, break out a little cellophane and a ribbon and everyone will ask where you bought these Patriotic Pops!)
Thanks so much for dropping by and checking out my Patriotic Pops. I would love to know how you like them!
What are your plans for Memorial Day? We are headed to the cabin and I just might have to make another batch of Patriotic Pops for my nephews!
