Welcome to Messy Mama Monday!
Once upon a time I loved cooking, baking, and creating in the kitchen. Now I “cook” grilled cheese and apples because I have tiny humans demanding I feed them 5 times a day (what happened to breakfast, lunch, and supper??), I bake… never (okay untrue! I bake occasionally when I’m feeling ambitious), and every now and again I get a wild hair to let the Lees play with me in the kitchen. And many times I am trying to convince everyone that our family baking session was a good idea and we are ALL HAVING FUN by the time it’s over? (I mean, hello! I have to go to the store and buy ingredients, get them all out and prep, mix, and bake, indulge the kids in helping pour, mix, and taste, clean up after the kids, and clean up after myself. I’m tired just thinking About it!! Anyone with me? Only me… oh.)
Well- for those of us with no time, energy, or motivation to actually do the baking right now I have the perfect solution!
Last week our elf, Hat, showed up with a box of goodies from Sweetology for a Mama/Big Lee date during Little Lee’s naptime. I’m not sure who was more excited! BL was pumped about the little sugar candies and the recovering teacher in me loved the clever packaging and I may have saved every little piece for future fun.
Sweetology did all the work so all I had to worry about was the fun! From (delicious) buttercream icing (already in piping bags) to fondant, sugar decorations to sprinkles, and cookie cutters Sweetology sent everything we needed for a stress free day of sugary fun!
Big Lee loved using the rolling pin and the piping bags. I’m sure she felt just like one of the Publix bakery ladies (she loves them because they give her cookies and call her cute! I love them because the cookie keeps her quiet while we shop.), but they wouldn’t have hired her because those fingers couldn’t resist taste-testing…a lot. Of course, she takes after her mama and likes the icing most so we may have redecorated the same cupcake a few times.
I have a confession. Hat showed up with our Sweetology goodies two days before we actually had time to decorate them. We were down to the wire with about an hour of free time when I finally decided we just had to dive in. I completely underestimated the CONVENIENCE of our Sweetology kit. Set up and clean up took less than 10 minutes combined (actually, probably more like 5 minutes but we will air on the side of caution) My only preparations were covering the table with butcher paper, getting the cornstarch and wax paper out of the pantry (a must when working with fondant), and finding the rolling pin.
Otherwise, I sat back, enjoyed some one on one time with BL and decorated a few cupcakes myself. I may have tried to tell BL that the fondant was playdough to discourage her from tasting it. Didn’t work. (I know, considering the sugar overload about to ensue I’m really not sure why I was concerned.)
Now let’s get down to business! Sure all the goodies show up perfectly packaged in disposable containers so clean up is a breeze, but does it taste like cardboard? I mean, these cupcakes travelled
across 3 states from the North Pole to find our doorstep. I was a little hesitant to taste test because I can be a little particular about my baked goods (If it tastes like it came out of a box I don’t waste the calories!) but these cupcakes were delicious!!! I’m salivating just thinking about my next order. (The baby daddy ate the chocolate cupcakes so I cannot attest to them but since he ate them both I would guess they were rather appetizing).
Thank you so much for joining us this week for a sweet edition of Messy Mama Monday.
