I’m one of those people that prefer a home cooked meal over eating out most days. But this eclectic little city I call “home” has given me a few exceptions and one of those is Doug’s Deli Downtown.
Today I grabbed a salad on the way to the Lees’ swim lessons. I was sitting at a table peacefully eating my Nuts & Harvest salad (without having to share) and this cute little lady leans over my plate to tell me how delicious my food looked and where did I find it. Y’all, she had never heard of my favorite little Deli Downtown!
I excitedly shared the details of how to find it and which dishes she JUST HAS to try… Maybe my raving went a little overboard because she walked away saying, “well I’ll let them I met their biggest fan”. Oops!
(I hope I didn’t scare her away from trying it! But I am, quite possibly, their #1 fan!! When my brother and sister-in-law came to town a year ago I may have made them eat Doug’s Deli two days in a row…)
But you moms out there get it right?! How exciting and rare it is to pick up delicious food you didn’t make yourself!? Food that energizes you instead of leaving you lethargic? I basically never have time to sit down and enjoy a meal at a restaurant as of late, but I can count on Doug’s Deli Downtown to have a “To Go” case packed with some of my favorite menu items letting me run in and grab something even when I’m pressed for time.
(Then there’s the fact I’m always greeted by smiling faces that belong to full size humans and they are ALL WAITING TO SERVE ME!)
Of course my favorite days are those I can relax at the restaurant and chat with friends coming in for lunch or read a book…. but those days are pretty infrequent!
A few things to know about Doug’s Deli Downtown!
Doug’s Deli Downtown uses goat cheese on the Spinach Salad with strawberries. It’s amazing! Life-changing. The Spinach Salad is paired with a Basil Vinaigrette dressing that I have worked tirelessly to recreate in my own kitchen but have yet to master. Luckily, they will sell you a large container of the dressing!
Karen, the cake and cookie maker/decorator, is ridiculously talented. You should follow Deli Downtown on Facebook just to see her creations!
For those of you needing a sweet treat for a friend or a dessert to grab on the go, Doug’s Deli Downtown always has a large selection of cakes, cookies, breads, muffins, and fruit bars available. (The Cake Pops and Cookie Pops are perfect for stuffing Easter baskets and Christmas stockings!)
If you are looking for a place to hold a lunch meeting there is a great little room in the back WAITING ON YOU! We used it last year with a few friends before Trick or Treating downtown and it was perfect for keeping the kids contained while the adults visited.
On Tuesdays and Thursdays you can join the Deli Downtown Supper Club! Each week Doug’s Deli Downtown mails out their menu for the week. At a cost of $25 you get an entree to feed 4 and the option to add on salads, dessert, and tea! A home-cooked meal without the dirty dishes!
